Facilitating Drama Activities Workshop, a workshop I attended as a participant
Facilitating Drama Activities Workshop, a workshop I attended as a participant
Being able to play a part in the drama and theatre scene has always been a dream for me since I was in secondary school. Although I am not the one acting on stage or the one in the wings as a backstage crew, I had the opportunity to intern with the Singapore Drama Educators Association as a Marketing and Communications Intern.

This was my very first internship, let alone one that focuses on Marketing. My main key project of focus that comes along with the internship is the Theatre Arts Conference 2025 as well as mini side projects like the Goodman Arts Centre Open House (find out more below!)

Besides focusing on social media content creation for TAC and SDEA, I had the opportunity to attend SDEA workshops like the Art of Facilitating Drama Activities that focuses on equipping participants with the skills to conduct drama activities to better structure their programmes and improve on their group facilitation and engagement skills. I may not be an educator or a teacher (yet...who knows?) but the skills I learnt in this workshop will certainly come in handy when it comes to designing programmes and workshops in order to break the ice between participants, especially if they do not know one another.

It is through this internship that I have developed further my skills in designing content on Canva as well as analytical and assistive tools like Meta Business Suite when it comes to scheduling and analysing data of our social media posts and will continue to carry these skills with me.

All in all, my 3-month internship tenure felt very short but I am glad it was indeed a fulfilling experience till the very end and I'm glad that I served my first internship with SDEA.

Thank you all so much for having me onboard!
Role & Responsibilities
Marketing & Communications Intern
May 2025 - July 2025
For the role, I supported SDEA’s advocacy and outreach by driving social media engagement and producing high-quality design and visual collaterals for both SDEA and the Theatre Arts Conference 2025. I was also tasked to assist the Secretariat with the TAC2025 project needs, administer accurate and timely content across SDEA’s channels and media partners, and contribute to the strategic planning within the Communications Department. Additionally, I also provided support to the TAC2025 Production and Marketing team to ensure cohesive and effective event execution throughout the conference.
Theatre Arts Conference
17 - 19 July 2025
SDEA's Theatre Arts Conference 2025 is an international conference held for artists, educators, researchers and practitioners in the realms of drama and theatre education, community engagement and performance. For the actual conference, I played a more consolidated role as photographer and at times focusing on social posting at various workshops, panels and presentations.

Prior to the conference, I focused more on dynamic posts such as IG reels such as the 4-part TAC Talk series which was core to the promotion of the conference on social media. Our first episode featuring Shai has now garnered over 2,000 views and 79 likes, which is one of the highest IG reels on SDEA's Instagram feed for the period of Apr to July 2025.

Alongside creating dynamic posts, I also focused on the creation of static posts like the Panel Discussions IG post which achieved over 3,200 views and 49 likes on SDEA's Instagram feed for the period of Apr to July 2025.

Besides doing the job as an intern, as photographer, I had the opportunity to attend every single programme during the conference, and I learnt so much from each of these programmes. At times, I myself wanted to partake in some of the activities and discussions because yes, it may all be centralised around drama and theatre but it is also so much more. Programmes that intrigued me the most were Tides of Connection: Partnerships among Deaf & Hearing Artists and Decolonising Drama: Exploring Connection to Country and Cultural Resilience through First Nations Perspectives.

Overall the 3-day conference was indeed one that was fulfilling until the very end and I enjoyed working with the Secretariat and the TAC team with this project!

Photo Utilisation

Although this was not curated by me, the photos used by SDEA here are all taken by me as part of my role to photograph the conference, but also to provide SDEA with a more substantial photo repository for their own promotional use in their social media feed

Goodman Arts Centre Open House
28 June 2025
I supported SDEA’s presence at Goodman Open House 2025 through a mix of on-ground engagement and digital communications. Working with Ben, we created small poster “tickets” to help guide children to the upstairs workshops, and also used his height to our advantage by turning him into a walking standee with A3 posters to attract attention.

During the workshops, I photographed the participating children and their families, and simultaneously managed SDEA’s social media by curating live IG Stories that provided real-time updates such as workshop capacity and weather changes. After the event, I created a photo-collage IG post to showcase and summarise the two workshops that SDEA ran throughout the day.

*Unfortunately, I am unable to showcase the social media content curated by me to protect the identities of the young children at the workshops
